A Kelso High School teacher caught a 15-year-old student in class Wednesday with a Pringles potato chip can containing more than 40 rolled marijuana cigarettes, according to a Kelso police report.

The teacher picked up the can, which was sitting next to the student’s desk, and shook it, according to the report. The noise its contents made didn’t sound like potato chips, so she opened the can, the teacher told police.

Police questioned the student, who waived his Miranda rights and said he’d traded his paintball equipment with another student that morning for the marijuana. The teen said he was a “pot head,” had gotten high that morning and planned to smoke all the joints after school with a friend, according to the police report.

The boy eventually told police that he had planned to sell, use and give away the joints at an upcoming party. He was booked into the Cowlitz County Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

Police tracked down the boy’s 16-year-old accomplice, who had the paintball equipment and a set of brass knuckles among his belongings, the report said. The teen admitted to the drug deal and was booked at the JDC on suspicion of delivery of marijuana at school.

A third boy whom police questioned, a 15-year-old acquaintance of the pair, was referred to JDC after police found marijuana-smoking paraphernalia on him, the report said.
