2nd UBC Cannabis Convention

By admin | March 1, 2012

For Immediate Release

Thurs March 1, 2012

Victoria, B.C.: This Sunday March 4, the UBC Hempology 101 Club will be hosing its 2nd Annual Cannabis Convention featuring some of the top activists and researchers in Vancouver. With students clubs at UBC, Vancouver Island University and the University of Victoria, combined with the Cannabis Digest newspaper, Hempology 101 is a leader in providing education about cannabis to students and the public. The 2nd Annual UBC Cannabis Convention is from 1 to 4 pm in room 207/209 of the SUB Building. It is free and open to the public.

Jodie Emery will be the key-note speaker, giving everyone an update on the status of her husband, Marc, who just passed the half-way point of his sentence in the US for trafficking seeds.

Chris Bennett will start the event off discussing the ancient uses of hemp that he has uncovered in his research. Chris has written 3 books on the history of cannabis. The most recent, CANNABIS: THE SOMA SOLUTION, gives a broad overview of the historical uses of cannabis and challenges many ideas of both traditional religions and modern ethobothanists.

Veteran activist Randy Caine will also be there to discuss the recent raids against his medical cannabis dispensary in Langley. Randy challenged the possession laws against cannabis after being caught smoking a joint with a friend near a beach in White Rock in 1993. Unfortunately, he lost his constitutional challenge against the possession laws in front of the Supreme Court of Canada in 2003. Randy has returned to the forefront of the movement, opening up 2 hemp stores, Hempyz, and a dispensary, until the police came in with a warrant.

The other speaker is Dr Paul Hornby, an accomplished researcher in the field who will talk about the benefits of cannabinoids, how cannabis is tested and the status of research into cannabis in Canada.
