Hempology 101’s 1st Annual Film Festival

Anticipation for the 1st ever UVSS Hempology 101 Film Festival on Friday Jan 16, 2009 is quickly spreading as word gets out. The films this year include the North American premier of CANNAHUANA, Rick Simpson’s documentary RUN FROM CURE and the world premier of a short movie made about my work in 2001 called WHAT’S UP TED? At the event we will announce a number of categories of next year’s awards. A contest for the name of the film festival awards will also be announced. The 1st Annual Hempology 101 Film Festival will be held from 7 to 10pm on Friday Jan 16, 2009 in the David Lam Auditorium in the Maclaurin Building at the University of Victoria. Admission is by donation.

“Cannahuana – the Moweed” takes you onto a 90-minute journey into two new worlds — those of the macrocosm and the plant time. The film was produced by a collective of artists from Jamaica, Germany and Switzerland. With the help of time lapse animated film technology the viewer is given an insight into the plants’ dimension — with one hour becoming a single second. The viewers become immersed in the plants’ world and are presented with a consciousness expanding natural experience.

“Cannahuana — the Moweed” features two audio tracks: The first audio channel contains ambient music especially produced for the movie and the second audio channel features a reggae DJ set from the last 50 years of Jamaican music history. The film captivates the viewer with its high image quality and previously unseen detail shots. For more information see http://www.cannahuana.com/.

RUN FROM THE CURE highlights the cannabis oil the Rick Simpson from Nova Scotia gives to sick people. He has helped cure many of cancer and other serious medical problems while dealing with raids and trials. Rick will start a cross Canada tour May 2 in Victoria and we will be hosting a couple of public events for him to speak and fundraise. For more information about Rick see http://www.phoenixtears.ca/.

The short film about Hempology 101 and the Cannabis Buyers Clubs of Canada shows the grassroots nature of my activities. WHAT’S UP TED? features rare footage from the first year of operating out of the Johnson St storefront when Ted’s Books was open for business. The 6th Anniversary Hempology 101 march to the BC Legislature is also shown in the 30 minute film, an event that continues to happen the first Weds in Sept starting now at City Hall.

Money raised at the film festival will be used to fund the upcoming 10th Annual Cannabis Convention on Feb 15. Everyone welcome. For more info see hempology.ca.
