Cannabis Buyers Clubs of Canada (381 4220): Cannabis and Prescription Drug Research Project.

By admin | September 22, 2004

The following is a current research project conducted by the CBCoC comparing prescription drug and cannabis use.

The following independent study by the Cannabis Buyers Clubs of Canada (CBC) is intended to document the effects of cannabis and compare the positive and negative impacts of prescription drugs to cannabis.

The first phase of this research project will be completed by CBC members and does not necessarily require the assistance of a doctor. However, members may find it necessary to contact their doctors office to document the complete list of prescription drugs they have tried and the estimated financial cost of these drugs. If the price of a drug is difficult to find, please leave space for someone to fill in later just remember to record how many pills per day your doctor recommended. Later phases of the project will examine the current understanding of cannabis by the medical community.

The main focus of the study is to prove that the responsible use of cannabis as medicine is less expensive than using prescription drugs, while improving the health and vitality of individuals suffering from various serious medical problems. Comparing the negative side-effects of prescription drugs versus cannabis will help show whether or not the herb is less dangerous to sick and vulnerable people than common prescriptions or experimental pharmaceutical.

This study does not promote the continual use of one strain of cannabis. Cannabis users experience a tolerance to individual strains of cannabis over time, and this is especially true for people suffering from serious medical problems. Combining several strains of cannabis together in a joint allows the consumer to benefit from the specific medical properties of each type of cannabis, usually resulting in amplified mental and physical effects. The clubs edible products contain several varieties of cannabis to maximize the potential medical benefits of each product. The different effects of indica and sativa strains allow patients the ability to use certain types at specific times. For these reasons, and more, this project will not include any references to strains in this phase.

Information gathered in this study will provide the groundwork for research in several areas. Documenting improvements in health and vitality with the responsible use of cannabis is an important step in the establishment of cannabis within the medical community. Taxpayers will also be interested when final results of the cost/benefit analysis are complete. The potential savings in prescription drug costs may prove to be dramatic. Collecting this bulk data will allow future researchers to create more specific and rigorous tests which will validate the general conclusions we draw given that the CBC is not a recognized research institute, we will not pretend that this study was not created with a certain bias in mind. We believe that this plant can provide substantial medical benefit to the seriously ill. That being said, we shall not wait for an existing establishment to prove that this herb, and products easily made with it, can provide relief comparable to prescription drugs with fewer side-effects. Non profit-motivated groups will do research which shows an easily grown plant can work as good as a pill. However, we hope to inspire students and other independent researchers to develop more studies.

If there is not enough space in the survey attach additional papers or write on the back. Thank you for your participation in this empirical study on medical cannabis.
