Ted For Mayor!

By Ted | July 19, 2002

Friday, July 19th

Victoria, BC: After years of work in humanitarian issues on Vancouver Island,
Cannabis Buyers’ Clubs of Canada founder and head consultant of Victoria’s Hempology 101
Society, Leon “Ted” Smith is running for mayor of Victoria in the fall municipal election.
A rally will be held at City Hall on Mon. July 29 at 2:00pm where Ted will publically
announce his campaign and his agenda as mayor.

Ted has an extensive history of community activism in Victoria, working predominantly in
an area referred to as community economic development. Included in his resume is work
as director at Inner City Youth Works Society, founding board member of the Greater Victoria
Community Economic Development, ran the Victoria Street Community Association after it lost
government funding which included operating The Bent Nail for several months, and worked at the
Victoria International Developpment and Education Association where he provided workshops and
conferences to youth on issues of sustainable communities at Youth Speaks. Ted also served as
the youth representative for downtown Victoria on the CRUNCH initiative, which gave him an
opportunity to sit on the Mayor’s (Bob Cross at the time) Task Force to Improve Safety and the
Quality of Life which addressed many serious downtown issues, especially panhandling. Ted would
like to revive the surviving task force members and groups to renew a process of
communication between everyone downtown.

An election platform, to elect Ted Smith as mayor of Victoria based upon Thoughtful Economic
Development, will be released Mon July 29 at 2pm at City Hall.
