14th Anniversary of the International Hempology 101 Society

For Immediate Release:
Weds Aug 26, 2009

Victoria, B.C: The International Hempology 101 Society will be holding a rally Wednesday September 14, 2009 celebrate 14 years in Victoria and to protest the Bill C-15. The group will meet at 7pm at City Hall and march to the provincial legislature for 8 pm where we will take our annual photo and hopefully listen to some local politicians condemn cannabis prohibition. This will also be the official launch of a campaign to jam the phone lines and emails of Senators on Sept 14, the day before the Senate gets together for the fall session.

Bill-15, An Act to amend the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts, is the first example of mandatory minimum sentencing for non-violent crime in Canada, and follows in the misguide path of the United Statesʼ “War on Drugs”. It will serve to criminalize low level marijuana producers in with hard core criminals and will put drug distribution solely in the hands of gangsters. Growing five plants could result in a minimum of six months in jail with Bill C-15.

On Sept 9 we will also be celebrating just how far the movement has come over the last 14 years. Our day will begin at 4:20 at the University of Victoria, where we will have this school yearʼs first meeting of the UVSS Hempology 101 Club, the largest student club on campus. In the evening, the rally will begin at the Victoria City Hall, followed by a march to the Legislature buildings, where we will meet to listen to what some of our politicians have to say about C-15. We may even have a special appearance from our mascot, Herb, for our annual postcard photo.

The International Hempology 101 Society is an incorporated non-profit society dedicated to educating the public about hemp, cannabis, and prohibition.
