Press Conference Introducing WSCR

By admin | January 22, 2009

For Immediate Release:

Friday, January 23, 2009

Victoria, B.C.: The International Hempology 101 Society will introduce their new staff and research project on Tuesday January 27th at 12 noon at the University of Victoria Cornett Building Room A-128. These new employees have been hired to work with the board and volunteers to design and incorporate the World Society for Cannabis Research (WSCR). WSCR is scheduled to incorporate as a charitable, not-for-profit research society in Sept 2009.

WSCR will publish information, including a peer-reviewed journal, on current scientific research and related research from cannabinoids to impairment and effects of various cannabis products. Publications of the WSCR peer-reviewed journal will come from, and be reviewed by, scientists around the world. Subsequent information will be made available to the international community via the internet. WSCR will also host conventions featuring published scientists every other year, starting with Vancouver in April (2010), followed by Toronto (2012), Amsterdam (2014), Los Angeles (2016), London (2018) and Victoria in (2020). Initial funding for WSCR will come from the Cannabis Buyer’s Clubs of Canada, which is celebrating 13 years of supplying cannabis products to people with permanent, physical disabilities and diseases on January 25th.

The recently hired Executive Director, Financial Officer, Research Coordinator and Administrative Assistant will be working in concert with the board of directors to formalize the WSCR institute. The Executive Director is overseeing the creation and incorporation of WSCR. The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for fundraising, promotions, grant writing, book-keeping and working with the auditor. The Chief Research Officer will form an international team of cannabis researchers to review studies before publication, and assist compassion clubs in the collection of data.

Assisting students, professors, scientists and journalists with current best practices in cannabis research methodology will improve knowledge of cannabis and its impact upon society. Opportunities to contribute as a volunteer will be through a Science Committee (first meeting Thursday February 12th 2pm), a Research Committee (first meeting Saturday February 7th 2pm), and a Fundraising Committee (first meeting Saturday February 21st 2pm). All meetings will be held at 826 Johnson St. For more information about volunteering or about WSCR please see our website hempology.ca or call Jessica Miller or Ted Smith at 250-381-4220.
