To: Canadian Minister of Justice

We the undersigned herewith express the view that justice has been miscarried in the case of Mr. Marc Emery – who has received a sentence of 90 days for passing a marijuana cigarette to anther individual. We the undersigned also affirm that this is an act performed millions of times a day by the 12% of Canadians who smoke marijuana and that the proposed new marijuana legislation will do nothing but make things worse.

It must not be a crime to perform the ritual of sharing marijuana just as it is not a crime to share a drink and since the new legislation targets traffickers – our friends, relatives or children may be treated even more unfairly in the future for passing a joint if this legislation succeeds.

Therefore any new marijuana legislation must make it clear that this ritual does not constitute “trafficking”

Sincerely,

The Undersigned.
