CANNABIS BUYERS’ CLUBS OF CANADA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Monday, April 1st, 2002

Future of Medicinal Cannabis Club lies in the hands of Victoria City Council.

Victoria, B.C. -
The lives of many people will be in the hands of the Victoria City Council and Police Board
this Tuesday afternoon at City Hall, 2pm. Ironically, the police hope to close down a medical
marijuana group while helping the city open a safe injection drug site.

HEALTH CANADA has given hundreds the legal right to possess and grow cannabis for medical purposes
but have not granted anyone the legal authority to distribute this herb. People have started groups
like the CBCoC because their sense of civic duty will not let them watch others suffer and die
prematurely because they do not have access to medical grade cannabis. Without legal protection
for providing this humanitarian service, medical marijuana groups are risking their lives to police,
criminals, and other authorities.

Concerned citizens will come tomorrow to witness statements made by police about the CBCoC and how
city politicians will react when pressured to persecute sick citizens. Many wonder how the city can
justify accomodating hard drug use while chasing people in wheelchairs back into closets. The only
people that appear to gain if the police are successful at tomorrow’s meeting are the drug dealers
downtown.
