LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT by Ted Smith Cannabis Digest #21

The time has come for the work of the International Hempology 101 Society to grow from its roots in Victoria to spread into new territory. To keep up with all the exciting changes and ventures we are trying several new methods of communicating with members and the public. Writing a Letter From The President for each issue of the Cannabis Digest is one of these strategies.

Though the forums at hempology.ca we hope to provide more details about these emerging plans by posting minutes from our monthly board of directors meetings, committee meetings and commentary from the general public. There are some positions on the board of directors availableso anyone interested should show up at the board meetings held the 1st Tues of every month at 7:30pm at 826 Johnson St, Victoria, B.C. People can start participating by joining one of the 3 committees we have formed to help the World Society for Cannabis Research get off the ground. You can either come to the Research Committee the 1^st Sat of every month, the Science Committee held the 2^nd Thurs every month or the Fun-Raising Committee on the 3^rd Sat each month, with all meetings held at 826 Johnson St at 2pm. We have faced many challenges in creating WSCR and have delayed incorporation until June 2010 when we hold our 1^st conference in Vancouver.

In the meantime we are working on a new survey and laying the groundwork for a peer-reviewed journal. A Hempology 101 Club will be starting at the Vancouver Island University in Sept with weekly 420 meetings of the club every Thurs. We plan upon starting a club at UBC in Jan 2010 in anticipation of the conference and the publication of the Hempology 101 Textbook.

A number of Hempology 101 products have been developed, buttons, stickers, postcards and t-shirts, and will be available in several stores in Victoria soon after this goes to print. It is our intention to have more products in more stores soon, as well as make them available on-line. An on-line contest for a logo for TEAM 420 will end on June 22. TEAM 420 will make its debut at the Zone’s dodgeball tournament in July. A line of hemp sports products will be designed to help promote TEAM 420 as we sponsor various teams, individuals and tournaments. Legalization by education.

A NOTE FROM THE ROOKIE EDITOR

Hello folks, I have taken on the job of being the editor of the Cannabis Digest and will start off by way of a quick introduction of myself and some of my history.

I did a number of years in the Army, was medically retired and I am, and have been for over thirty years, an avid smoker of marijuana for a variety of medical reasons, both physical and physiological.

I have taken up the fight against Prohibition since my career change and hope to help by way of this forum. For me, joining the CBC of C has opened a whole new world for me. Not only has the store and staff been beneficial but this digest has also been the source of so much information that has been both helpful and insightful to me.

This change comes at the same time as the recent end of printing of Cannabis Culture Magazine; this means we are now the only regularly printed medium of Medical issues and concerns on the west coast.

We hope to see Cannabis Digest grow and flourish with new articles and stories written by our staff and others from around the world. We are always looking for member’s profiles which shows why and how marijuana helps individuals. So if you can help us and your fellow pain sufferers with helpful or insightful information, write down a brief description of yourself, you only need your first name and a brief description of what medical problem(s) you suffer. The main info we are looking for is how marijuana has helped you.

Spring has finally sprung, and we’re ready for lots of fun!

We are very pleased to announce with the growing membership, the CBC of C has been able to reduce it’s prices for dried herb again.  This is just one of the many benefits of being part of a club. The staff have also received more benefits, now with 2 weeks vacation a year, and 3 months paternity leave. Thank you very much Ted, from fellow members and staff alike.

The University Lecture series is over for another year and it was lots of fun. Thanks very much too all the guest speakers. Don’t forget if you missed the lectures you can watch them on You-tube! I am also pleased to announce the Chronic of the Year award goes to John Martin.

On May 2^nd Hempologists accompanied Herb to Vancouver to attend the Marijuana March for the first time. We made a great impression on Vancouver. Check out the video and pictures in our forums at: http://www.cbc-canada.ca/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1315

On July 1^st we will be celebrating Cannabis Day by hot-boxing the courthouse for the 2^nd year, though we have celebrated the event here since 1996. We’ll be meeting at 4:20 as usual. Come get your picture taken with our mascot, Herb. We will also play REACH FOR THE POT with the first 8 contestants that approach Ted.

This April 28^th marks the beginning of the 5th annual tournament of Reach for the Pot! Come one, come all, to the greatest game show on Earth! It starts shortly after 7pm at the Beacon Hill Band Shell every Weds night until the final game June 24. I challenge you to find more entertainment and laughs for free, than watching Ted in his underwear trying to get people to guess how much Hemp and Co. charges “within a dollar!”

Due to the increase of our knowledge and the awareness of my fellow members that cannabis is truly a remarkable medicine, we would like to offer the sign-up procedure to our longer standing members that have never had a proper introduction to our alternative products.
